Brock Lesnar has retired from MMA, clearing the way for Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic to have a rematch for the UFC Heavyweight title.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Cormier-Miocic II will take place Aug. 17th in Anaheim, California.

Lesnar (5-3) told UFC President Dana White Tuesday that he will not return to the sport after Lesnar confronted Cormier in the octagon back in July of 2018.

At UFC 226 in July 2018, Cormier defeated Miocic with a first round knockout. Miocic before the loss had defended the UFC heavyweight title three times.

White saying of Lesnar’s retirement to ESPN,

“He told me he’s done, he’s retired. We’re going to move in another direction with Cormier.”

That direction is now in the form of a much-anticipated rematch between two of the UFC’s greatest heavyweights.

Cormier, 40, and Miocic, 36, have gone back and forth in the media about a potential rematch.

Miocic accusing Cormier of ducking him, while Cormier was looking for a dream match with Lesnar after putting off his self-imposed retirement date which was to occur by his 40th birthday.

We now will get a rematch for the UFC heavyweight title between Miocic and the man they call ‘DC’, and a fantasy fight between Lesnar and Cormier will remain just that.
